How much does it cost, and how is the price calculated?

It depends on your case: trade types, transaction volume, number of exchanges, tax years and deadline. Tell me about your situation, and we agree a fixed price for the work before anything starts. Every case is quoted individually, with fixed quotes starting at €2,200. As a small business under § 19 UStG, I do not charge VAT.

How does the process work, step by step?

You get in touch and tell me about your situation, and I reply within a day. We discuss your case and how I would proceed. You send your data: exchange exports and wallet addresses. I bring everything into one consistent history, determine the taxable results for your jurisdiction, and build your documentation with full methodology and audit trail. Then I deliver the documentation and explain the procedure and the results, so that you or your tax advisor can file from it.

What does the documentation contain?

The complete history of your transactions, the calculation broken down by the categories that apply in your jurisdiction (spot disposals, derivative income, staking and other income), per-transaction methodology, statutory citations, a full audit trail, and a summary letter that any tax advisor can use as the basis for filing. You can submit the documentation to the tax authority directly as evidence for the crypto part of your tax return. See sample documentation.

What data do I need to provide?

You tell me where you traded (your exchanges and wallets) and I tell you exactly what to export for each one. Different exchanges need different files, so I tailor the list to your setup.

I transferred coins between my own wallets. Do I have to provide these transactions?

Accepted Answer

I need them if the assets are traded at some point because the cost basis carries across the transfer. If you are not sure, send them.

Question 6

Where is my data hosted?

Accepted Answer

Your data is stored encrypted on Proton Drive, an end-to-end encrypted Swiss service, and only I can access it. No third party, including Proton, can read it.

Question 7

How long do you keep my data?

Accepted Answer

Raw data and intermediate calculations are deleted once the contractual obligations are fulfilled. Only the final documentation and the methodology version are retained. On request, I delete your data earlier at any time.

Can I engage anonymously?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can intake under a case ID. Real legal identity is required only at invoice issuance and documentation generation (the document must address a real person to be recognized by the tax authority).

Do you need my private keys or withdrawal access?

Accepted Answer

No. I never ask for private keys or withdrawal rights. You either send your data securely or give me read-only API keys limited to the relevant records, and I delete those keys as soon as the work is done.

Can you work with my existing Koinly or CoinTracking data?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Exports from Koinly, CoinTracking, Blockpit, bitcoin.tax and similar tools are useful inputs in addition to the original exchange files, and I can adapt to any other software you used. I treat them as one source among others and verify everything against the raw data. Previous work is not wasted; it is checked, corrected where necessary, and used for the final documentation.

How do we exchange data securely?

When we start, I propose the simplest secure route for your setup, typically an end-to-end encrypted transfer or password-protected archives rather than plain attachments. Your files are stored encrypted.

Will the tax authority learn about my crypto?

Accepted Answer

Yes, increasingly. Since 1 January 2026, exchanges and other crypto service providers must collect and record their clients' transactions under DAC8 and, in Germany, the Kryptowerte-Steuertransparenzgesetz, including names, tax IDs and transaction values. The first automatic exchange between authorities is scheduled for 2027. This is why defensible documentation matters: when the authority already holds the data, your filing has to match it.

Which exchanges do you support?

Accepted Answer

I support every major exchange, including Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, Bybit, BitMEX, Deribit and OKX, as well as wallets and on-chain activity. Tell me where you traded, and I tell you exactly what to export from each exchange. I can also work with small or exotic exchanges, and with exchanges that have shut down.

Do you support staking rewards and airdrops?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Staking rewards and airdrops are treated as income at fair market value on the date received, per the rules of your jurisdiction. I track the cost basis for future disposals.

How do you handle missing cost basis?

Accepted Answer

Missing cost basis is determined by a fair-market-value lookup at the date of acquisition, sourced from regulated exchange price data and central-bank reference rates. The methodology is set out per affected lot in your final documentation.

I have millions of transactions from algorithmic trading. Can you handle that?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Volume is not a problem. For algorithmic traders I build custom solutions with a full audit trail. Tell me about your setup.

Which calculation method do you use, FIFO or something else?

Accepted Answer

I use whatever your jurisdiction allows and whatever you choose. I support the full methodology of every jurisdiction I serve (FIFO, LIFO, average cost, and others) and apply the chosen method consistently. I explain and document the procedure to make it auditable.

Can you handle prior years and voluntary disclosures?

Accepted Answer

Yes. I regularly reconstruct several past tax years, and I produce documentation suited to a voluntary disclosure. These cases are often time-sensitive. Tell me your deadline and I will prioritise.

Do you handle NFTs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. NFT mints, trades, royalties and transfers are part of complex documentation, valued and categorised according to your jurisdiction's rules.

How do you handle derivatives such as futures, perpetuals and options?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the exchange and how it represents the data; Bybit, BitMEX and Deribit, for instance, all export very different transaction records. I normalise each one and calculate it to fit your jurisdiction's treatment of derivatives. Because the details vary, this is best discussed directly.

Can you document losses, lost or stolen funds, or exchange collapses (FTX, Celsius)?

Yes, and such cases are increasingly common. Realised losses, lost or stolen funds, and exchange collapses like FTX or Celsius all need careful, defensible documentation. I reconstruct what happened and present the tax position clearly.

Can my tax advisor file directly from your documentation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The documentation is built for exactly that. With methodology, statutory citations and a per-transaction audit trail, your tax advisor can file directly from it.

What if the tax authority questions your documentation later? Do you support a tax audit?

Accepted Answer
